Solihull Centre for Inclusive Learning

The SCIL development is a new shared campus on the site of Smith’s Wood secondary school and accommodates two special needs schools, Forest Oak and Merstone. Together the two schools will cater for up to 180 pupils and will share facilities such as a warm water pool, light and dark sensory rooms, specialist rooms and play facilities. Environmental measures included in the new development include a ‘living’ sedum grass roof to conserve water and heat and ground source heating.

C A Sothers was appointed by Moss Construction to partner them on the SCIL project and be responsible for the design and installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services. In addition to the traditional mechanical, electrical and public health services, the £1.95 million M & E services subcontract also included sprinklers, natural ventilation and ground source heating.
