FIRM'S FIRST PRIZE
Engineer
takes top business honour
City
engineering firm CA Sothers has won one of the West Midlands'
most coveted business
honours.
The Hockley electrical engineers and contractors
beat off rivals at last
night's final of the Green Shamrock awards for
small businesses to win
the competition's domestic category. And, after
being presented with
prizes by guest of honour Clare Short MP at Birmingham
Council House,
a proud financial director Stephen Craddock said:
"This company was
set up in 1926, the same year as the National
Grid.
Now we have won this prestigious award. To be given this
and judged by people
from outside the business, adds a great deal of
weight to the award."
The
company, which has installed electrical equipment
at a range of
high-profile businesses, including the Hard Rock
Cafe, Mailbox restaurants
Fish and Denial and the Belfry, clinched the domestic
honour after seeing
sales soar from £12 million to £20
million since 2001. C A Sothers also
maintains a proud family tradition, with managing
director Robert Hinton
the grandson of original founder Charles Sothers,
who set the firm rolling
back in 1926.
"This is still a family
firm, we try to retain that family ethos. We have
got
over 25 people who have done more than 25 years
- we think it is very
important to build that relationship with people."
