CA SOTHERS - WINNER OF GREEN SHAMROCK
BUSINESS SCHEME AWARD 2002/03

Firm's High Fliers Award

City engineering firm CA Sothers Ltd are full of the joys of Spring after
seeing turnover nearly double in just two years. Sales at the Hockley
electrical engineers and contractors have soared from £12 million to
£20 million since 2001- and now the company has won an award in
recognition of its success. The firm, which employs around 140 people,
is the domestic winner for the April round of the Green Shamrock scheme
for small businesses.

Financial director Steve Craddock said the company had installed electrical equipment at a range of high-profile businesses, including the Hard Rock
Cafe, Mailbox restaurants Fish and Denial and the Belfry in advance of the
Ryder Cup.

"Our sector is very competitive but we have made a conscious decision to
expand into different markets and in the last two years our turnover has gone
from £12 million to £20 million. We are very happy with the way things are
going, The marketplace is difficult at the moment but we have managed to
buck the trend. We have a very stable, committed workforce."

Mr Craddock said around 50 per cent of the company's work was in the
Midlands, while other large projects had been undertaken in Bristol and
Edinburgh. The company continues to uphold a firm family tradition, with
managing director Robert Hinton the grandson of the original founder of the
factory back in the 1920's.
