The company founder Charlie Sothers set up an Engineering
partnership in 1919, which subsequently became a limited
company in 1926. In 2006 we proudly celebrated being in business
for 80 years. We are still a family owned company.
Charlie Sothers was the grandfather of our Managing Director
Robert Hinton.

Being in the West Midlands Charlie Sothers expanded his company
by providing services to the many different manufacturing businesses
based in Birmingham and The Black Country.

As steam gave way to electricity for providing motive power to machinery
C A Sothers carried out electrical installations in various local factories.
These included Press Shops, Metal Spinners, Foundries and Steel
Rolling Mills as well as the numerous Gun and Jewellery manufacturers
that were based in the Hockley area of Birmingham. Once these electrical machines were installed, the need for repairs and maintenance provided
another source of business. This included repairing turned parts for
machines and rewinding electric motors.

During the early 1960's the decision was made to cease the motor
rewinding business and focus on Electrical Installations and Servicing.
With the changes that took place to manufacturing C A Sothers
successfully diversified into alternative markets for electrical services.
These included specialist installations for the storage and transportation
of Petrochemical Products and developments in the rapidly expanding
Leisure market.

As Design & Build became ever more popular as the means of procurement
for new construction projects, CA Sothers expanded into the installation and maintenance of mechanical engineering services.

Today, C A Sothers is a successful Building Services Engineering
Installation and Maintenance company.
